Joseph was raised in Little Sovra. He was raised primarily by his mother, Kili, who was a skilled baker and chef, and from her developed a love of culinary arts. His father, Eniamis, was a fighter stationed in Keep Sovranic; he was rarely home, and as his eldest son, Gregory, was interested in following in his father’s footsteps, it was mostly Joseph and his mother tending their bakery at home for the majority of his life.

When he was 15, Joseph was left in mourning as his mother passed away from an unknown illness, leaving him to take care of the bakery. Business was slow, and shortly after his mother’s death, his father and brother were both killed in a surprise attack on the Keep made by a rogue group of teifling wizards.

Impoverished and without a family, the 16 year old Joseph was forced to close his mother’s bakery… and with nowhere else to go, he paid his way with his cooking skills onto the back of a traveling performance troupe’s caravan (known as “The Traveling Dragon Carnival”) headed for Bjon’de. Soon enough, he was accepted as their official cook and brewer, and traveled with them for many years all around the Moonlit Realm.

When he was 24, he decided to take a break from working with the troupe (which may or may not have been inspired by his inference/discovery that the ringmaster was a teifling) and, when they made a rare stop in Hutungwe, was offered a job by King Noah as the bartender of Chaav’s Temple—the nicest pub in the capitol city, whose owner was seeking retirement. Delighted at his good luck, Joseph took the job, and maintains the pub to this very day.
